Carlow Writers Christmas party in the Teach Dolmain pub We gave out 2 poems for the group to read and be inspired by! They are Horse People http://poems.com/poem.php?date=15587 and Listening to blackbirds athttp://poems.com/poem.php?date=15528. The theme for our Christmas homework is animals or birds. You will also need to keep the overall theme of Passageways in mind too! Tricky but I am sure we are all buzzing with ideas already. This piece must be a new piece to bring to the group when we meet back on Monday, 14th January at 7:30 I told you we were a talented bunch!
Not only did we get a win in the poetry competition on KCLR FM but another poet in the group, Phelim Kavanagh had two of his poems selected to go in a very special place! Phelim's poems will be features as part of the National Art exhibition to be exhibited at Enniscorthy Castle from 8th of December to 13 January 2013. This is a joint venture organised by the DFP Northern Ireland and the OPW Southern ireland. This is the exhibitions last port of call. Phelim's poems to accompany Gavan Dunn's An island is born and Bernadette Kiely's Haystacks burning marinas field. A very well done and congratulations to Phelim, who works hard at the craft. This is well deserved and an honour for him and the group. Carlow Writers' Group are a talented bunch but far too modest!
Last week, Simon Lewis won 1st prize in the local radio's poetry competition. He went on air to read his poem out and collected €300! Well done to Simon! His poem will be available here very soon. We are waiting to hear back from the radio station as to whether he owns it or they do! Artists, eh? |
